Oslo, Royal Palace 12:00 pm: His Majesty King's Guard is a battalion of the Norwegian Army and has two main roles to play. First it serves as the Norwegian King's bodyguards, guarding the royal residences as the Royal Palace as well as Akershus Fortress in Oslo, and second it is also the main infantry unit, in worst case, responsible for the defence of the Norwegian Capital. The Kings Guard is under the direct command of the King of Norway. The norwegian King's Guard was founded in 1856, when King Oscar I decided to establish a Royal Norwegian guard to underline his position as monarch of both Sweden and Norway. On Norway's independence in 1905, the company became the new guards unit for the King of Norway, Haakon VII. During the Second World War, the Gurad prevented the german Wehrma...
The Norway Royal Palace is located in Oslo city. At certain time, there will be changing of guards. Its interior wasn't open to public at that point, the royal family was still staying inside. From end of June, when their summer begins, it will be opened to public as guided tours.

On the second day of my summer holiday my hosts Mike and Shelia took me down to discover Vigeland park, mainly to see the sculptures there. Little did we realize that the Norwegian Royal Guard was giving a free performance for the locals. How fortuitous we were. From what we understood a mere week before they'd been performing for an audience of over half a million! Needless to say they were amazing.

Travel video about destination Oslo in Norway. Although the Norwegian metropolis of Oslo is a modern city, it continues to be inspired by the lively spirit of its past traders, fighting men and seafarers. The unique capital city of the Vikings is full of both culture and sport, including a royal castle, various museums, ancient churches and world famous sporting events. It has 900 years of history. The conference rooms of the city's government are decorated with frescos and paintings by Munch, Krogh, Revold and Rolfsen and each year on the 10th of December, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death, the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony takes place. West of the harbor basin is Aker Brygge, a city quarter that was created on the site of a former shipyard and which features some unusual architectur...

The proud spirit of the Norwegian people shines in every dimension of their capital city — from its once-fearsome Viking ships to its sleek new Opera House, from a fun folk museum that keeps traditions alive to the constant festival of its thriving harborfront. Connecting with the culture, we enjoy art — from Vigeland's statues to Munch's scream — and join local friends for a boat ride on their fjord. © 2010 Rick Steves' Europe

A Google Street View "hyperlapse" of highway E-16 eastbound starting in Bergen and ending at Kongahuset (The Royal Palace) in Oslo, Norway. One section is missing, the Lærdal Tunnel and the two long tunnels that precede it, due to the fact that Google decided (just before I got to them as it happened) to remove the imagery inside those tunnels. Otherwise, it is the complete road trip.
